CMS issues final physician sunshine rule
CMS has issued a final rule requiring manufacturers of drugs, devices, and biological and medical supplies to report payments or gifts of $10 or more made to physicians, hospitals and other health care professionals. The rule also requires reporting of physician ownership and investment activities in applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations.

Deadline for eRx incentive approaching
Physicians and other eligible professionals have until Dec. 31 to report at least 25 successful electronic prescribing (eRx) transactions to earn a 0.5% bonus on total allowed charges for professional services covered by the Medicare Part B Physician Fee Schedule during 2013.

CMS releases details on increased availability of the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan

Incentive payments for 2010 now available
Incentive payments for CMS’ 2010 Medicare Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program have begun for eligible professionals who met the criteria for successful reporting. Distribution of 2010 payments is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.

CMS announces ICD-10 testing week
ICD-9 code sets used to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures will be replaced by ICD-10 code sets on Oct. 1, 2014. CMS has announced a national ICD-10 testing week to help direct submitters (clinicians and clearinghouses) with the transition to the new codes.
