The Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) 2012 reporting year will be the last year for physicians to participate in PQRS and receive an incentive payment of 0.5% of the total allowed charges for Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) covered services, without risk of penalty.

CMS delays version 5010
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that it will not initiate enforcement action related to noncompliance with the version 5010 electronic claims transaction standards until 90 days after the Jan. 1, 2012 compliance date. This effectively moves the enforcement date to March 31, 2012.

Version 5010 deadline approaches
As of Nov. 15, there are 46 days before the implementation of version 5010. Effective Jan. 1, 2012, physician practices will need to submit claims not only to Medicare but to all payers using version 5010 in order to be paid.

CMS issues final physician sunshine rule
CMS has issued a final rule requiring manufacturers of drugs, devices, and biological and medical supplies to report payments or gifts of $10 or more made to physicians, hospitals and other health care professionals. The rule also requires reporting of physician ownership and investment activities in applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations.
