Candidates announced for Board of Governors Chair-elect Designee

George M. Abraham, MD, MPH, FACP, and Gregory C. Kane, MD, FACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors. The Governors will be casting ballots next month, and the results will be announced in late October.


George M. Abraham, MD, MPH, FACP, and Gregory C. Kane, MD, FACP, are seeking election as Chair-elect Designee of the Board of Governors. The Governors will be casting ballots next month, and the results will be announced in late October. The candidate elected will begin his term as Chair-elect at the conclusion of Internal Medicine Meeting 2017 and will take office as Chair in April 2018.

Dr. Abraham is currently the Governor for ACP's Massachusetts Chapter. Dr. Abraham has been a Fellow of the College since 2002. He has been active at the local level as a member of the Governors' Council and as Secretary/Treasurer for the chapter.

On the national level, Dr. Abraham served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors. He is currently a member of the Postgraduate/Chapter Education Subcommittee, the High Value Care Task Force, and the Health and Public Policy Committee. He is a representative of ACP to the ADOPT Guidance project, a collaboration of The Joint Commission and the CDC, and is an ACP Wellness Champion. He also serves on the Infectious Disease Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Abraham received his medical degree from the Christian Medical College in India. He completed his residency at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Mass., and then obtained a Master's in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and infectious disease. Currently, Dr. Abraham is professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and associate chief of medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

Dr. Kane is currently Governor for ACP's Southeastern Pennsylvania Region, which is part of ACP's Pennsylvania Chapter. The chapter received a John Tooker Evergreen Award in 2015. Dr. Kane has been a Fellow of the College since 1997. He has been active at the local level as the Membership Chair of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Region as well as a Council Member and Chair of the Nominating Committee. He has hosted Doctor's Dilemma at ACP's annual Internal Medicine Meeting and was a member of the Awards Committee.

On a national level, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors. He is currently Vice-chair of the ACP Services PAC and a member of the Scientific Planning Committee for Internal Medicine Meeting 2017. He was also on the Scientific Planning Committee for Internal Medicine Meeting 2015, the Health and Public Policy Committee, and the Membership Committee.

Dr. Kane received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pa. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases. Currently, Dr. Kane is a professor and chair of the department of medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.
